When And How To Watch ‘Iron Fist’ On Netflix
IF YOU’VE ever studied martial arts, you recognize this type of fighter: No matter their strength or swiftness, they are an easy target and a mess of technical vulnerabilities, leaving themselves wide open time and again to the expertly delivered blow. He also exists within the troubling lineage of white characters acting as outsiders only to master a skill better than the people of color who invented it. Netflix’s series does little to subvert these racial politics or assuage the discomfort that they stir: The Asian characters exist primarily in the margins as interchangeable foes for Danny to dispose of. It’s that simple. Plus, why wouldn’t you want to watch?
All 13 episodes of “Iron Fist” will hit Netflix on March 17. This character is clearly the thread that ties the Marvel Netflix corner of the #MCU together, and her presence has been teased for quite some time.
Jones had an interesting observation when asked about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show has faced criticism for whitewashing its characters, especially Danny Rand.
For heads who look to Marvel Comics and, thus, their series and films for escapism, Iron Fist is way too 1%-y for many. Also, kudos to Carrie-Anne Moss and Rosario Dawson for resurrecting their MCU roles (lawyer Jeri Hogarth and nurse Claire Temple, respectively) for this series, but at times it feels like this was done exclusively to show how interconnected these larger characters are for future reveals. For a series that’s based around a Buddhist monk-trained “living weapon” who has literally-lit fists, it feels like we’re treated to less action than normal. Danny still has to figure out what to do when the Chinese mafia shows up, however – or what it even means to be the latest in a long line to wield the power of the Iron Fist. Such an epic, personal struggle should elevate our understanding of his character and at least be visually dynamic.
Rand eventually finds solace in the magical kingdom of K’un L’un and begins his training at a very young age. In a thumbs up / thumbs down world, users are instead trying to improve the personalisation results for themselves, rather than others. Finn Jones is a decent actor and could be a likeable Danny/Iron Fist but the writers just don’t give him anything to do. Iron Fist has no such saving grace. The cast also includes guest artists like Carrie-Ann Moss, Michael Maize, Lewis Tan and Esau Pritchett.
The team-up approach worked wonders on the big screen for Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and the rest of the gang in Marvel’s “Avengers” movies. This has been done to encourage binge-watching, a strategy that has been successful for other Netflix series. Those on the west coast will be able to watch at 12 a.m. PDT.
“Well it’s been hard, because you know you can’t really tell your friends and people about it”, Manchester-born Dhawan told RadioTimes.com on a phone call from NY, where he’s now promoting the series. Then, both Jessica Jones and Luke Cage surpassed Daredevil with their daring and at times blistering points of view. That’s where Netflix has scored over traditional TV networks in the last few years. A hero whose fists were pure iron, with stories that went from less to more to team for several years with Power Man (Luke Cage). “Many people don’t know this, but Sabretooth [a major Wolverine villain] actually first appeared in Iron Fist”.
