When does the 2016 College Football Playoff start?
In order to do that, Sporting News used NCAA Football 14 on the Xbox 360 and the latest 2016 college football rosters from gametag Pastapadre. After that it’s a toss-up between the NFL and Major League Baseball.
So there you have it; there’s still a bit of a wait until the College Football Playoff kicks off.
With College Football Playoff selection on Sunday, some of the nation’s top teams will have a final shot on Saturday to impress the committee. We have to understand that elections happen, certain ideas are adopted and we’re at a different place now. If the Lions lose tonight, their likely destination is the Cotton Bowl, against either Western Michigan or Navy. This year, they’re the Peach (in Atlanta) and Fiesta (in Glendale, Ariz.) The committee keeps the top seed closer to home for its semifinal, so expect to see likely No. 1 seed Alabama in the Peach. Michigan’s losses are to No. 2 Ohio State and unranked Iowa. Ohio State, after a victory over yet another top-ten opponent remained firmly positioned in its #2 spot, and Clemson moved up from #4 to #3.
The victor of tonight’s Big Ten title game will have two loses, but still would be able to make a strong case to be selected for the Final Four. An oxymoron, true, but a better assessment probably has never been written about this past week of debate. The Bedlam victor likely needs to do it in convincing fashion to give them an impressive top-10 win. Close defeats to MI and Ohio State have kept them out of the CFP, but a win on Saturday might allow them to sneak in. While this matchup is not an official Big 12 championship game, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are the top two teams in the conference and the victor will be crowned the conference champion.
How, then, can you leave the Big Ten’s conference champion out of the playoff?
Confused yet? It gets better. Or does it take MI, a club that beat both Penn State and Wisconsin head-to-head?
What if Washington and Clemson lose? If Florida gets blown out badly enough the Gators could drop down in the rankings and clean out of a New Year’s Six bowl. If you’re still a little nervous at getting jumped by three conference champions, root for an upset.
Penn State’s best hope is to win impressively against Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship game and hope Clemson loses. But the Wolverines have wins over No. 6 Wisconsin, No. 7 Penn State and No. 8 Colorado in their favor. Based on the eye test, they might have the best chance to beat Alabama. We have the two divisional champions here today playing for the conference championship, and they should be respected for that. It’s ranked No. 2 in the CFP rankings by everybody and considered a lock for one of the four playoff spots. Or, in an act of total disdain for championship games by the committee, could it be MI?
According to Ohio State, the scale converts shaking from fans into the perceived magnitude of a naturally occurring earthquake centered about 6.2 miles below the stadium. With a playoff spot already secured, a win on Saturday would guarantee them the number one ranking. The Playoff could really use an expansion, but if eight is too many teams, why doesn’t the committee consider six?
Conference Championships are here. Then, there is a scenario where one of these teams could sneak in.
The local team, the Minnesota Golden Gophers, finished their season a 8-4 after a complete collapse against Wisconsin last weekend.
Temple: The Owls are almost in the same spot as OH, and they’ll be looking for their first conference championship since 1967.
