Much of Mr Modi’s USA visit, on which he received rock-star welcomes, also focused on connecting with the Indian diaspora in Silicon Valley, the IT professionals who migrated in their droves over the past two decades to seize job opportunities that weren’t available back home. But, it seems no matter where he goes or what he does, he will forever be unable to shake off the presumed responsibility of the 2002 Gujarat Riots.
Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg announced Modi’s visit on his Facebook page earlier this month and invited users to post questions.
Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, who also met Modi in San Jose, said Modi’s visit to Silicon Valley is the symbol of the collaboration and cooperation between the USA and India.
Mr Modi, 65, was the first Indian leader to visit the West Coast in more than 30 years.
Modi, in his media statement, said both nations can apply innovation and technology for achieving Sustainable Development Goals, including combating climate change and conserving nature. “The strength of social media today is that it can tell governments where they are wrong and can stop them from moving in the wrong direction”.
“Poverty is a massive problem in India and technology-based entrepreneurship can be an antidote”. Cook reported in the July earnings call that iPhone sales in India nearly doubled in Q3 and said in this meeting that the iPhone 6s/Plus would be launched in India “very soon”. “This is actually brain deposit and it would serve its motherland at an appropriate time”, he said addressing the Indian community at the packed SAP Centre here.
“Digital India is an enterprise for India’s transformation on a scale that is, perhaps, unmatched in human history”, PM Modi had said while speaking about Digital India initiative before a gathering of Silicon Valley CEOs. The far-reaching intentions of the Indian leader are to make his country flourish by boosting the start-up scene, attracting foreign investment and encouraging successful Indians to bring their tech knowledge back home.
Talking about India’s aggressive push for the cause of climate change, Modi said, “Our measures include not just a plan to add 175 GW of renewable energy by 2022, but a development strategy that will enable us to transition to a more sustainable energy mix”.
