Where is Florida State in the College Football Playoff rankings?
The final College Football Playoff Rankings will be announced at 11 a.m. on Sunday, December 6. That would leave, at least today, Oklahoma and Notre Dame to decide the final one.
Here’s a look at the rest of the field and what each team has to do for a postseason berth, starting with how their path ahead projects. That leaves the conference title games to decide the final standings for the semifinal pairings. The Tide beat Georgia and LSU when those teams were ranked in the top 10 of various polls. Northwestern moved up four spots to 16th, while Ohio State fell five spots to eighth and MI moved up two spots to 10th. A spot below the undefeated Hawkeyes. Victories for the Trojans and Midshipmen would enhance two of Notre Dame’s best wins. The main wish is for Oklahoma State to defeat Oklahoma, which it did in Norman past year. McCaffrey is one of the most electrifying players in college football, a modern-day Reggie Bush, with the No. 5, versatility and Heisman-caliber resume to match the former Trojan.
The Spartans rose up from ninth to fifth after their win in Columbus. If Coach Mark Dantonio can get his team two more wins, they’ll be a lock for the postseason.
The Irish might be able to get some help from their rivals.
Long said Notre Dame’s slip was “more about the performance of Oklahoma and MI State against top-ranked teams … that combination of them (Notre Dame) not playing well the last couple of weeks, combined with both those high-ranked wins for both MI State and Oklahoma propelled them up there”. First, the Buckeyes need to beat MI in Ann Arbor this Saturday.
Rounding up the top four are the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Help needed: All right, Baylor fans.
Winning is everything, but it isn’t the only thing for Notre Dame this weekend against Stanford.
Mississippi State is back in the rankings after a one-week hiatus and is followed by a pair of Pac-12 teams (UCLA and Utah) and a pair of non-Power 5 teams (Toledo and Temple). MI (CFP: No. 10) 12. Navy has a big matchup against one-loss Houston this week. Last week’s No. 24 USC team lost, so that win doesn’t look almost as strong now for Notre Dame. Losses by those teams would assure the ascent, however.
One-loss Florida, meanwhile, was ranked No. 8 last week.
They like him a lot, apparently, and they’ve got reason.
The Wolverines play Ohio State this week.
It finally appears the Big 12’s backloaded schedule is an important talking point in the selection committee meeting room.
Left for dead after its loss to Oklahoma, Baylor bounced right back with its backup (and third-string) quarterback to upset Oklahoma State on the road.
I’ve said this for a while: I think how teams are seeded within the top four will start getting scrutinized more in Year 2 of the playoff.
Could Florida quarterback Treon Harris and the Gators miss out on the playoffs entirely even if they win the SEC? The Tar Heels are up three spots from No. 17 to No. 14 in the rankings that were released on Tuesday. Only here, MI beats the Buckeyes on Saturday and MI State similarly loses to the Nittany Lions.
Clemson did what it needed to do in dispatching of Wake Forest to finish the ACC regular season 8-0 and now faces SC in the annual rivalry.
