What do you think of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees for 2016?
Artists Bun E. Carlos, Rick Nielsen, Tom Petersson and Robin Zander will be honored for their contribution to the music industry as the band Cheap Trick.
Joining the Hall in the new year will be: Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple, N.W.A., and Steve Miller. The induction ceremony will be held on April 8 in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center with HBO televising the event later that spring. So while many music fans gripe over who didn’t make it and launch social media campaigns for their favorite bands, we’ll introduce you to the 2016 inductees, who were all previously eligible.
Other musical groups to be inducted include Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple and Steve Miller. “It’s everything that kind of eluded us in a lot of ways when we were coming up”, N.W.A.’s Ice Cube told Rolling Stone, speaking about the historic honour.
When we started N.W.A, I couldn’t have imagined this.
Two other classic rock juggernauts, Deep Purple and Steve Miller, have been eligible for the Rock Hall for years and are finally getting their dues in the class of 2016. I am humbled to be included in such an fantastic group of great artists.
“I’m verklempt. I don’t know what to say”.
The induction of the latter four bands is a victory for classic rock fans, who have generated the most complaints about the Rock Hall’s exclusion of popular but not always critically acclaimed performers.
N.W.A. members Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren and DJ Yella will be inducted for their contributions and heavy influence on hip hop.
Cheap Trick moved swiftly to capitalize on the honor, announcing Thursday they had signed a new deal with Taylor Swift’s label, Big Machine Records.
He adds, “If they had asked me what do, I think I would have said, ‘Here’s a list of everyone that was ever in my band”.
