White House blasts Omarosa for recording talks
Newman also provided “Meet the Press” with an audio recording she said was made in 2017 when White House chief of staff John Kelly fired her.
In one of the recordings, Kelly was in the process of firing her in December and tried to plan the spin that would surround her departure.
“I think that Omarosa unfortunately has undercut her own credibility”, she said.
White House Chief of Staff John Kelly listens to President Donald Trump during a working lunch with governors in the Roosevelt Room of the White House, in Washington, DC, June 21, 2018.
Manigault Newman has written that such a tape exists but has not provided evidence. “They told me I could work from home if I wanted to work”.
White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said Monday: “I’m not going to get into the tick tock of who knew what when, but the president makes the decisions”.
NBC News did not know what was said before or after that short exchange.
Omarosa Manigault Newman appeared on “Meet the Press” on August 12 and played a shocking recording of what she claims is the moment White House Chief of Staff John Kelly fired her in the Situation Room. Excerpts of the tape were played on air.
Newman also said it was the only meeting she had with Kelly during her time at the White House.
Trump over the weekend called her a “low life”.
Conway appeared on ABC to continue the White House’s defense against Omarosa’s new book – out on Tuesday – and her claims that the president used racial slurs.
The former Trump supporter described the White House as a place ‘where everybody lies’.
What is her history with Trump?
How on Earth was Manigault able to stride into that room and walk away with a secret recording of what happened there? “They weren’t in the room'”. “The fact that she was recording a conversation in there, really, raises alarm bells in the minds of people who have worked in that room”. Critics denounced the recordings as a serious breach of ethics and security.
In her book, Manigault Newman attempts to explain why she remained at his side, even as he took steps that angered her.
“She was the worst hire we ever made”, Mary Margaret Overbey, Gore’s former office administrator, told the New York Times previous year.
“Secretly recording conversations in the Situation Room isn’t just wildly inappropriate, it’s a threat to our national security”.
“What I can tell you is the thought of doing something like that to a fellow employee, not to mention the leader of the free world, is completely disgraceful”, he said.
Ms Newman effectively threw a hand grenade by claiming – without evidence – that she had heard a tape of Mr Trump using racist language against African-Americans. She responds, “I don’t want to negotiate”.
