White House denies limiting Federal Bureau of Investigation inquiry : Kavanaugh
Democrats have seized most recently on Mr Kavanaugh’s indignant, emotional testimony before the judiciary committee to question whether he has the temperament for a lifetime appointment on the nation’s highest court.
“With that being said, I’d like it to go quickly …”
“I, for one, am waiting for the additional information that will come from the supplemental FBI investigation to inform me”, Flake said.
“I want them to interview whoever they deem appropriate, at their discretion”, the president tweeted late Saturday.
CHANG: OK, let’s turn to another statement – this one where Kavanaugh has been asked about drinking while he was underage.
His remarks came amid questions about whether Republicans want to limit the scope of the FBI’s investigation into allegations of sexual assault that have been level against Kavanaugh.
The White House insisted it was not “micromanaging” the new one-week review of Mr Kavanaugh’s background, but some Democratic lawmakers claimed the White House was keeping investigators from interviewing certain witnesses.
A lawyer for Mr Judge – a childhood friend of Mr Kavanaugh – said on Monday that his client’s interview “has not been completed”.
Another witness, Patrick “P.J”.
P.J. Smyth, identified by Ford as being at the gathering of teenagers where the alleged assault occurred, was interviewed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and again denied knowledge of the gathering or of improper conduct by his friend Kavanaugh, Smyth’s lawyers said.
President Trump also saw what the Democrats were attempting to do and called them out on Twitter.
“The White House should not be allowed to micromanage an FBI investigation”, she said. But he said the statements Kavanaugh is making now do matter.
Originally Flake was scheduled to appear on a panel about the future of the Republican Party alongside Ohio Governor John Kasich, who ran for president in 2016, at a theatre on the campus of Emerson College. But with protests looming, Emerson officials canceled the event, citing “safety reasons”.
Flake added, “It does no good to have an investigation that just gives us more cover, for example”, and said that, “we actually need to find out what we can find out”. Mr Kavanaugh has denied Ms Ramirez’s allegation.
The only stipulation from the White House was that the FBI conclude its investigation within a week.
In March, Flake told New Hampshire Republicans that someone needs to stop Trump in the 2020 presidential contest. Charles “Chad” Ludington, who now teaches at North Carolina State University, said he was friend of Kavanaugh at Yale and that Kavanaugh was “a frequent drinker, and a heavy drinker”.
Another Yale classmate of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has challenged the truthfulness of the Supreme Court nominee’s Senate testimony, saying Kavanaugh was often “belligerent and aggressive” when he drank. She recently went public to the New Yorker with allegations concerning Kavanaugh while both were at Yale University in the 1980s.
The stunning reversal capped two weeks of allegations, followed by furious denials, that roiled prospects for Trump’s nominee, a conservative federal appeals court judge once expected to easily become the second Trump nominee to win a lifetime appointment to the top US court. Kavanaugh angrily denied the charges to the committee. Republicans would scream bloody murder, but some Democrats would point at Garland and say “Don’t hate the player, hate the game”.
