White House denies trying to silence evidence of Russian Federation ties
The role of Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes in the investigation looking into the Trump campaign’s possible collusion with Russian Federation during the 2016 election has been has been criticized for months, but recently, his friendliness with the president and his team, as well as suspicious incidents involving Nunes, has fueled a huge number of calls for the chairman to recuse himself.
“Wouldn’t have been the way I would’ve done things, but I don’t know whether that means he has to recuse himself”, Christie said on “Good Morning America” today.
Nunes acknowledged Monday that he reviewed intelligence reports at the White House complex and met a secret source behind his statement that communications involving associates of President Donald Trump were caught up in “incidental” surveillance.
WASHINGTON | House intelligence chairman Devin Nunes rebuffed calls to step aside from the Russian Federation investigation Tuesday as demands grew for him to recuse himself as head of that probe. “Why would it not?”
But Nunes never scheduled Comey’s and Rogers’ reappearance before the committee – a committee spokesman said Tuesday that Nunes was still trying to set it up – and Democrats now question whether Nunes’ maneuver was meant to kill momentum the committee had built after its first public session March 20. “My colleagues are perfectly fine”.
And he says the Russians continue to interfere in USA politics, specifically targeting House Speaker Paul Ryan of late. Asked whether he would recuse himself, he said, “The investigation continues”.
Flynn’s ties to Russian Federation have been scrutinized by the FBI and are under investigation by the House and Senate intelligence committees. Some Democrats have accused Nunes of trying to undermine the investigation’s independence from the White House and called on him to recuse himself from it.
Nunes has not shared his source with fellow committee members, but told Bloomberg columnist Eli Lake it was an intelligence official and not a White House staffer. When asked if the committee had asked Yates to testify, Warner said he was “not going through the specific names, but it was obviously my intent that Sally Yates would be one of the people”.
In the letters, attorney David O’Neil said he understood the Justice Department was invoking “further constraints” on testimony Yates could provide at a committee hearing that had been scheduled for Tuesday.
“This is done because the White House wanted it to be done”. Mr. Comey doesn’t want to appear before the committee unless the invitation is bipartisan, according to a person familiar with the matter. “We have no problem with her testifying, plain and simple”. We could have heard from Comey and Rogers in a closed setting, and then held the regular open hearing afterward.
Rubio says his campaign team was targeted during the election and again within the past 24 hours from an unknown internet address in Russian Federation. “I’m sorry, whenever there’s time we’ll do a press conference”.
The Washington Post newspaper reported on Tuesday that the Trump administration had attempted to block the testimony of Yates, an Obama appointee who resigned in a public dispute with Trump in January.
Indeed, Mr. Jones already has co-sponsored an otherwise all-Democratic bill to establish an independent commission to probe claims of Russian attempts to influence the US election.
What is in the documents Nunes viewed?
Yates and other former intelligence officials had been asked to testify before the House Intelligence Committee this week, a hearing that Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) abruptly canceled.
