However, her opponent Kelli Ward, who frequently criticized McCain for not stepping down after his diagnosis, mused in a Facebook post that his announcement about discontinuing treatment was timed to distract from the kickoff of her statewide bus tour.
Trump offered Senator McCain’s family his blessing on Twitter writing: “My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain”.
French President Emmanuel Macron called McCain a “true American hero”. Most brought flowers. One man offered a folded USA flag.
