White House flags return to full staff after McCain’s death

U.S. Sen. John McCain is being remembered in Romania for a letter he sent to the government urging the East European nation not to backtrack on fighting corruption.

However, her opponent Kelli Ward, who frequently criticized McCain for not stepping down after his diagnosis, mused in a Facebook post that his announcement about discontinuing treatment was timed to distract from the kickoff of her statewide bus tour.

Trump offered Senator McCain’s family his blessing on Twitter writing: “My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain”.

French President Emmanuel Macron called McCain a “true American hero”. Most brought flowers. One man offered a folded USA flag.
