White House Officials Aided Nunes in Getting Intel
They have demanded Nunes step aside from his committee’s investigations into the Russian Federation ties.
President Trump has seized on the statements as some vindication for his assertion former President Barack Obama tapped his telephones at Trump Tower.
According to a report published at the end of the Obama administration by the outgoing director of intelligence, James Clapper, no coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation had been established. Trump later fired Flynn for misleading Vice President Mike Pence about whether he discussed sanctions with the Russian ambassador. “The integrity of the committee looking into this has been tainted”. Specifically, Nunes announced that Trump’s transition team had been inadvertently monitored by American intelligence agencies after the election.
Weighing in on the issue, the Kremlin yesterday said the meetings between the bank officials and Mr Kushner and his company were “normal business”, reported Agence France-Presse.
On the MSNBC program Morning Joe, Swalwell said that the work of the committee leading into last week had now been compromised. VEB provided no further details.
Trump suggested late Monday that the House panel should investigate Bill and Hillary Clinton’s dealings with Russian Federation. “Trump Russia story is a hoax”, he tweeted.
“Never should’ve gone to meet with the president whose campaign is under investigation”. Democrats, meanwhile, have accused Nunes of attempting to “suicide bomb” his own investigation because they are convinced the evidence of collusion is there.
“We’re doing our best to try and get the investigation back on track”, Schiff said following the meeting.
Then, later on Friday, the public hearing that was to include Yates’ testimony was abruptly canceled by the Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), making a lot of people go, “Wait, what?”
“And he has become the subject basically, he should be, of an investigation”, Cummings said. “You can’t keep your credibility”, Jones said.
“I just love it when Senator Schumer gives Republicans advice on what we ought to do”, Rep. Trey Gowdy, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, said yesterday on Fox News.
“In particular, we believe that Ms. Yates should not be obligated to refuse to provide non-classified facts about the department’s notification to the White House of concerns about the conduct of a senior official”, he wrote.
“He has not been operating like someone who is interested in getting to the unvarnished truth”. “This is what a cover-up to a crime looks like”.
Rep. Devin Nunes, r-chairman, House Intel Cmte: “The investigation continues”.
The ensuing days saw Nunes brief Trump privately on new information of potential surveillance of Trump’s aides before telling Democrats on the investigation. The next day, Nunes visited the White House again to brief Trump personally on the intercepts he saw, before briefing fellow panel members.
Nunes has said the information he received did not support that allegation, which has also been disputed by Obama and top intelligence officials.
“Chairman Nunes met with his source at the White House grounds in order to have proximity to a secure location where he could view the information provided by the source”, Langer said Monday, according to the Associated Press.
