White House on lockdown after man draped in USA flag jumps fence
According to a report by the Washington Post, it took the Secret Service five days to discover that a man had shot seven bullets at the White House in 2011.
“Criminal charges are pending at this time”. It was locked down briefly on Saturday (21 November) after a woman tossed an apple core over the South Lawn fence.
The White House was placed in lockdown due to the incident.
Caputo wore white pants and a blue top was taking an envelope, and was cloaked in a American flag, the CNN journalists said. “According to her, he said, “‘All right, let’s do this, ‘” after which “he just ran through us, jumped over the first barricade and went over the fence”.
Images on social media show the man inside the White House fence raising his hands into the air. “It was chaotic. Everyone around us was yelling and kids were crying”.
Security are said to have intercepted the man – believed to be a protester – before he made contact with the building. The incident took place about 2:45 p.m. EST.
The incident comes after an Army veteran tried to scale the White House fence with a knife past year.
Investigators found hundreds of rounds of ammunition, a machete and two hatchets in his vehicle after he was arrested.
The man managed to get over the fence, which had been topped with new metal spikes after previous jump attempts, as President Obama celebrated the holidays.
The shocking security breach launched congressional hearings and led to Secret Service director Julie Pierson’s resignation.
