White House: Trump ‘not discussing’ firing Mueller

And while the poll still showed support among Republicans as relatively strong-some 77 percent found Trump favorable-the 17 percent of Republicans who said Trump was “unfavorable” is an eight point increase from poll figures released in June. “We didn’t win because of Russian Federation, we won because of you”, Trump said at a raucous campaign rally. “The Russian story is a total fabrication”.

These Americans are already organizing in support of Mueller and the independent investigation and stand ready to take to the streets if Mueller is fired or if the special counsel office investigation is in any way undermined. Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff added that the impaneling of the grand jury is an indicator that the probe is moving into a new phase. The move is often simply a tool to allow a prosecutor to subpoena evidence or testimony.

To be a member of a federal grand jury, a person has to be adequately proficient in English, have no disqualifying mental or physical condition, not be now subject to felony charges punishable by imprisonment for more than one year and never have been convicted of a felony (unless civil rights have been legally restored).

Trump’s answer was clear, as he previewed a political strategy created to question Mueller’s legitimacy, suggesting his investigation was a tool of the establishment that is still smarting from Hillary Clinton’s election loss.

On the matter of Comey’s dismissal, for example, Mueller could contend that Trump himself told Russian diplomats that his goal for removing Comey was to ease the pressure on him due to the Russia investigation – even though Trump had caused the public to be told that Comey was sacked for mishandling the Hillary Clinton e-mails investigation.

There are two forces at work here: On the one side, there’s the Trump White House, which has been working to discredit the investigation, and on the other side, there are those hoping to learn the truth. Demographically, Washington, D.C., was a majority-black area from the late 1950s until 2011; African-Americans now constitute a plurality of residents with just under 50 percent of the population. Tillis did not dismiss the notion that the legislation is directed at Trump. But in an unusually nuanced approach, he attacked Democrats rather than taking on Mueller head on.

That always was going to be a hard case to make.

Though the communications team has yet to become organized, and the president continues to put himself in jeopardy with his ever-shifting explanations, Trump’s legal team has become more disciplined.

Dershowitz’s cynical theory would make flawless sense if the White House were in Tennessee, West Virginia, South Dakota, or any other jurisdiction where support for Donald Trump runs high. Don’t get me wrong-grand juries nearly always return indictments, and I would love to a few hurled at the Trump family and all its enablers.

Trump’s sustained assault on the Russian investigation, and its implications of political peril for him, has fed critics’ concerns that he might fire Mueller.

In addition, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley of Iowa has said he will not hold any confirmation hearing on any hearing for an interim appointment of an attorney general if Trump should fire Sessions. He is blatantly concerned with the look of power, and getting what he wants his way. The new grand jury will just be able to focus on what is expected to be a long and involved Russian investigation and nothing else.

But equally, it was clearly a significant step. For a company to stay afloat, and thrive, one must remember how to control bad publicity. I don’t believe a word they are saying.
