White House Would ‘Welcome’ 2020 Oprah Challenge
Will that be enough to win her Florida in 2020?
Saying the “law of averages” will see all entrepreneurs fail at some point, Winfrey advocates getting beyond disappointment and into determination. “More than ever before as we try to navigate these complicated times”. She’d need to demonstrate, unlike Trump, that she is serious about policy and fully capable of understanding the complexities of foreign and domestic policy. Her rise is an awe-inspiring rags-to-riches story, the stuff of incredible nominating convention films: born in poverty in MS, raised by a single mom in Milwaukee, self-made-millionaire at age 32. And her message to male abusers of power? “I can’t get them to actually respond because a skilled politician knows how to give the answer they want”. One way station before a presidential run would be a political entity that seeks to raise money and help other candidates in 2018 while setting forth a prototype of an agenda.
Bring it on, the White House said Monday, welcoming a would-be battle against Oprah Winfrey for the presidency in 2020, NBC News reported. More recently, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, movie action star and former professional wrestler, was being encouraged to run. Even Oprah’s longtime boyfriend, Stedman Graham, admitted President Oprah may be a possibility.
Despite denying it personally, Winfrey’s partner told the LA Times, ‘It’s up to the people.
Spicer said that Oprah’s celebrity gives her a huge platform, and that a one-on-one between her and Trump would be “the clash of titans”. BDS activists came to the magazine’s office with a letter demanding Winfrey reject Leviev but were barred from entering.
In the past she has nixed suggestions of political aspirations.
Winfrey appeared on CBS’s “This Morning” in October to talk about a story she worked on as a correspondent for “60 Minutes”. The dieting company’s shares jumped 12.2% in trading Monday to close at $52.62, up $5.71.
Winfrey on her program has hosted in-depth conversations, by TV talk-show standards, with the likes of Al Gore, actor and climate activist Leonardo de Caprio, and Princeton University climate scientist Michael Oppenheimer, PhD. Forbes estimates she is worth $3.0 billion compared to $3.5 billion for Trump.
But some would argue the similarities end there. “Even I am now starting to think the rules have changed about running for president”.
“Wow, Oprah, I think I found your campaign spokesman”, Tapper replied.
Trippi notes that low voter participation in the parties’ primaries have made it possible for outsider candidates like Obama and Trump to overtake those who are considered part of the establishment.
Since then, Winfrey endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016.
“All this stuff about what people usually do is out the window”, he said. Where political experience counts for nothing and celebrity, everything?
“She’s lost her mind now”, Winfrey said. She might have to face a sane, qualified Republican.
Although Oprah has said in the past that she is not running for president, the self-made tycoon’s speech at the Golden Globe awards hinted that she may consider the post, as she ended her speech heralding a “new day”.
Of course, Oprah inspired and empowered us, speaking about sexual harassment, the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements, and the future for women and, well, everyone from this day forward.
But having critical experience in government is one too. But presidential elections tend to be personality driven, and that could work in Winfrey’s favor. CNN did not name the friends, who it said had spoken on condition of anonymity.
Her moving acceptance speech has now rallied the Internet into launching a campaign for Miss O to run for President in 2020!
Winfrey’s best friend Gayle King didn’t hose down speculation. She told The Hollywood Reporter in June, “I will never run for public office”.
The thought that the US’s first female president would be black is an exciting one, as well as the notion that Winfrey would knock Trump from his prime-time position.
One Twitter user wrote that the only way her speech would have been more ideal was if she announced at the end that she was running for POTUS. Considering her self-made fortune, it would be hard to argue her financial trajectory was any less impressive than Trump’s.
TRUMP: That would be a pretty good ticket.
