White nationalists praise Trump’s appointment of Steve Bannon
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) sharply rebuked President-elect Donald Trump’s decision to choose Stephen Bannon, the former head of the Breitbart News website, as his chief strategist and senior counselor, calling the decision “a sad day” for those who support pluralism and tolerance.
In interviews, Bannon has acknowledged that the alt-right may attract some racists, homophobes and anti-Semites, but said that he does not share those opinions – and that the left harbors undesirable elements as well.
Just as clearly, if Mr. Trump’s goal is to unify our nation, he should reconsider – and rescind – his appointment of this radical, divisive figure.
And it quickly mobilized Democrats to warn that Trump is further empowering the hate groups rejoicing in his victory.
“It takes a while for people to reconcile themselves with that new reality”, Obama said of the choice of Bannon, a man celebrated by the white nationalist movement.
“Stephen Bannon has led an organization, Breitbart News, that the Southern Poverty Law Center has said ‘has undergone a noticeable shift toward embracing ideas on the extremist fringe of the conservative right, ‘” Casey said, “‘Racist ideas. And that Frank Gaffney – who with Pamela Geller orchestrated the anti-Ground Zero Mosque campaign – has been advising the Trump transition team? “Bannon is a risky man”.
Bannon joined Trump’s election team as chief executive late in the campaign, following the departure of Trump’s second campaign team in August.
President-elect Donald Trump’s selection of Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus to be his chief of staff brought quick praise from members of the GOP, but Sunday’s other major Trump administration appointment has so far been met with silence from within the party. “Here’s a guy who’s a Harvard Business School, London School of Economics, 10-year Naval officer advising admirals”. “I had an opportunity to interact with the campaign”.
“Frankly, people should look at the full resume”, Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway told reporters on Monday (Nov 14).
In a Wednesday statement, Zeman said he’s pleased with that because “the US can not send a better ambassador to Prague” than her.
Many Trump opponents see Bannon’s appointment as proof that the President-elect will maintain connections with the white populist movement. “I know him well, I worked hand-in-glove with him”. Heavily influenced by the shock-based rhetoric of internet chat boards, the alt-right includes strains of white nationalism and aggressive anti-feminism. His transition office said in a readout that “he is very much looking forward to having a strong and enduring relationship with Russian Federation and the people of Russian Federation”. Breitbart died of heart failure in 2012 at age 43, opening the door for Bannon’s rise as top executive.
“He was so synonymous with Breitbart”.
“It’s really important to try to send some signals of unity and to reach out to minority groups or women or others that were concerned about the tenor of the campaign”, Obama said.
Bannon has been personally accused of prejudice.
He faced misdemeanor charges over the last 20 years, including domestic violence and battery, following an incident with his former wife, Marie Louise Piccard.
“I don’t have concerns”, Ryan said of Bannon on CNN’s “State of the Union”. She said in court filings that he was concerned that the Willows Community School “used to be in a temple”. His ex-wife said in court papers obtained by The Associated Press that Bannon made anti-Semitic remarks when the two battled over sending their daughters to private school almost a decade ago.
