White Sox acquire third baseman Brett Lawrie from A’s
What’s more, Baseball America did not have Wendelken or Erwin in its top 10 rankings for the White Sox’s farm system before the 2015 campaign.
Considering the White Sox need an upgrade at both second base and third base it’s unclear where Lawrie will fit in with his new club.
The White Sox made their first big move of the offseason Wednesday when they acquired third baseman Brett Lawrie from the Athletics for minor league pitchers J.B. Wendelken and Zack Erwin.
Lawrie established career bests this past season in batting average (.260), doubles (29), home runs (16) and RBIs (60). 293 with a. 484 slugging percentage against right-handed pitching.
Lawrie, 25, was acquired by the A’s from the Blue Jays prior to last season and hit.
Lawrie has five years of major league experience but won’t turn 26 until next month.
Wendelken, 22, was a 13th-round selection in 2012. 263 hitter with 59 homers, 217 RBI and 231 runs scored in 494 games over five seasons, the first four in Toronto. Rookie Tyler Saladino played the second half of the season at third following the trade of Conor Gillaspie to Angels in July. The lefthander and 2015 fourth-round pick out of Clemson made 15 appearance, including seven starts.
