White Sox acquire Todd Frazier in trade deal
All-Star third baseman Todd Frazier has been traded to the Chicago White Sox in a three-team deal that also involves the Los Angeles Dodgers, a baseball official with direct knowledge of the trade told USA TODAY Sports.
Frazier had a huge first half for the Reds, making his second All-Star team and winning the Home Run Derby at home in Cincinnati, but then slumped in the second half and finished with totals right in line with his good but not great career norms.
CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman also notes that Peraza was involved in the Dodgers’ deal with the Reds for closer Aroldis Chapman.
OUR TAKE: With the Reds in full rebuilding mode, Frazier is a hot commodity thanks to his power and the fact he is due only $7.5 million in 2016 and isn’t a free agent until 2018.
Johnson was the White Sox Opening Day second baseman in 2015 but was sent to Triple-A in May after hitting.270/.333/.297 and playing sub-par defense.
Peraza is the biggest name going back to the Reds.
According to multiple reports, the Dodgers acquired outfield prospect Trayce Thompson in a three-team trade Wednesday morning. He’s coming off a disappointing season at Triple-A in which he hit just. 295 with five home runs and 16 RBIs. 806 OPS last season, slightly better than what some might call his breakout year in 2014.
Johnson hit. 230 in 36 games with Chicago last season and hit. He went 9-for-36 (.250) with three home runs and four runs batted in and stole two bases.
