White Sox out score Royals 7-2
The White Sox are five games under the.500 mark and will be looking to finish the season with some momentum and play spoiler for the Royals in the process and after a big win yesterday they have to feel confident heading into this one as both teams are throwing shaky starters. First pitch is set for 6:10p. And that’s achievable for a team that had won three straight entering Saturday and is 5-3 in its last eight.
The 34-year-old right-hander pitched six innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits and four walks while striking out five in a no decision.
“It’s huge. It helps me build my confidence as well, ” Rodon said. “A little more walks than I wanted to [give up] today, but to be honest, it seemed like that team changed their gameplan a little bit”. “Innings where they started to get guys on and it got a little dicey, he’s finding a way to reach and find something else, another level”. “I don’t really look too far into personal stats. So, overall pretty good”.
Both men brought up the significance of Mike Piazza’s game-winning home run.
Eric Hosmer hit a two-run homer in the first and Alex Gordon a solo shot in the fourth off Shields. I mean, it was kind of swirling out there, but as a pitcher you can’t really worry about that.
The White Sox responded in the third thanks to an RBI fielder’s choice by Melky Cabrera.
Despite giving up his major-league-worst 36th and 37th home runs, Shields left after six innings with the Sox clinging to a one-run lead.
“It’s huge”, Rodon said of manager Robin Ventura’s show of faith.
“Absolutely, I want to be here”, said Shields, who reported no issues with his recent back problem.
The White Sox took their first lead of the night in the fifth with an RBI single from Jose Abreu, followed by Justin Morneau’s RBI double.
But then Davis did what Sox reliever Chris Beck couldn’t do two innings earlier.
The Royals are still four games out of the second wild card position, which is now maintained by Baltimore, who beat Detroit on Saturday.
“We’re just doing everything we can right now”, Cain said.
Tyler Saladino’s single – his third straight game with three hits – and Adam Eaton’s double led off the inning to put runners at second and third with nobody out. Saladino is 6 for 8 in the past two games.
Kansas City Royals’ Terrance Gore celebrates with teammates in the dugout after scoring on a Whit Merrifield two-RBI double during the seventh inning of a baseball game against the Chicago White Sox Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, in Chicago. Beck suffered the loss.
“That’s a tough one, especially with the speed on the bases”, Ventura said. “No matter how many pitches I’m at, I always want to get that last out”. RBIs: Merrifield 2 (21), Hosmer 2 (90), Morales (77), Gordon (33), Cabrera 2 (71), Abreu (90), Morneau (22), Narvaez (5).
“Tonight we were in a good spot right there once Adam (Eaton) hit his double”.
“But [Davis] is so good in tough situations, and he ended up coming out on top”.
But being without Cain could dampen those postseason hopes.
