White Sox rally past Red Sox 5-4
Thompson, getting a start in right field against a left-hander, capped a three-run seventh inning for the White Sox with a two-out, two-run double to the left-field corner off Miley to score left-fielder Melky Cabrera and designated hitter Avisail Garcia. Second baseman Carlos Sanchez has also picked up his game, hitting.
Shortstop Alexi Ramirez was charged with an error on the play. The Cardinals’ Peter Bourjos’ got his first career pinch-hit home run. “The second thing is the outpour of people around here in the front office and fans on the street saying ‘hey, we appreciated what you’ve done and we always get the sense the White Sox are trying to win a championship and going for it.’ The expressions kept coming in and in and I never knew, I never felt that it that’s kind of nice”.
The White Sox jumped ahead first against Miley, capturing a 1-0 advantage in the second inning. He delivered a game-tying single in the fourth inning, and the go-ahead two-run double in the seventh to complete the comeback the Sox couldn’t quite pull off on Monday.
The Red Sox made a significant change in their organization last week when owners John Henry and Tom Werner hired Dave Dombrowski as president of baseball operations and gave him full autonomy of all baseball decisions, pending ownership’s approval. Lefty-hitting Bradley is expected to play tonight against White Sox left-hander Jose Quintana. Mookie Betts tied the score with an RBI double to left though Ramirez had a shot to cut down Josh Rutledge out home only to unleash a poor throw that got away from Soto.
The White Sox scored the three runs on three hits, the biggest of which came from Thompson.
White Sox: RHP Zach Putnam (right groin) was not available to pitch Monday night after experiencing soreness while warming up in the bullpen Saturday night. T.Thompson singled to right, Abreu scored, Av.Garcia to second.
-Hanley starting the move to first base may spell the end for Travis Shaw, as he has been consistently playing first base recently. Additionally, the rotation needs a veteran leader to help mentor younger starters Eduardo Rodriguez, Henry Owens and Brian Johnson. Miley (10-10) allowed five runs and 13 hits in 6 2-3 innings. Castillo did most of the damage.
Red Sox second. Ortiz popped out to third baseman Saladino.
On the outside perception of Rusney Castillo, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Joe Kelly: “In the last couple weeks when I talked to people about Castillo, the jury’s still out, and I think they want to see a larger body of work on him”. Normally you have one or two, but that many is very odd. He has had a huge impact on my life and I can’t shake this empty feeling knowing he won’t be back next year.
