White Sox Ready to Commence Anderson Era
Former Phillies star Jimmy Rollins’ latest stop in his baseball career hasn’t gone well.
The Chicago White Sox designated veteran shortstop Jimmy Rollins for assignment and promoted top prospect Tim Anderson from the minors on Friday. He might not be a bad fit for the A’s, being that he was born in Oakland and grew up in Alameda (Encinal High).
Rollins, 37, was hitting just.221 in 41 games.
The White Sox, who have lost 12 of their last 15 games, announced the moves prior to Friday night’s game against the Kansas City Royals. Rollins is expected to be another move, as he could possibly be designated for assignment by the team.
The 2007 National League MVP became the third Sox player to be DFA’s this season, and the second in two days.
Reports are out this morning that Tim Anderson will be joining the White Sox today.
Anderson, 22, is hitting.304 (75-247) with 10 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 20 RBI, 39 runs scored and 11 stolen bases over 55 games with Charlotte this season. He was ranked 19th by Baseball American earlier this year.
After an April that had folks discussing an all-Chicago World Series, the White Sox are now at.500 (30-30), 3.5 games behind the Cleveland Indians for the division lead in the AL Central. Last Saturday, the White Sox also acquired right-hander James Shields in a trade with the Padres. Further, the team even more recently ate the contract of Mat Latos, and signed first baseman Justin Morneau.
