Whitey Bulger’s girlfriend indicted for criminal contempt
Something about a film following a career criminal makes it impossible to look away, and while “Black Mass” can’t measure up to the likes of “GoodFellas” (1990) or “The Departed” (2006), it manages to be effective in its own right, held together by a refreshing performance from Johnny Depp. Bulger’s other victims, buried in the dirt basement of number 799, were Arthur “Bucky” Barrett and John McIntyre. He has been reemerging in the news this week thanks to the biopic Black Mass in which Johnny Depp plays the mobster.
To be fair, Depp isn’t the only actor who underwent a facial transformation for “Black Mass“. Now, Bulger items are all over eBay and sellers are hoping to cash in on the movie’s buzz.
Phil Castinetti, who runs New England memorabilia shop Sportsworld, said he put the jumpsuit up for sale after buying it previous year from a man who claimed to be Bulger’s former cellmate. Where Cooper and Takayanagi place the camera relative to these surroundings is just as important to establishing the movie’s mood, and they exhibit an impressive ability to cleanly draw focus to the separate elements of each frame without resorting to any kind of showiness.
A prison jumpsuit that once belonged to Whitey Bulger could make a local man a lot of money. But what I can tell you is “Black Mass” is so achingly generic it feels like it was adapted from an unfinished page from a book of Mob Movie Madlibs where the only space someone filled in was the one that read, “Name a Boston Location”. What sets Bulger’s story apart from the other thugs of south Boston is that he was also an FBI informant during most of his murderous run throughout the ’70s and ’80s – with the added intrigue that his brother, Billy Bulger, was a Massachusetts state senator at the same time.
She is now serving time at a low security federal prison in Minnesota.
Juno Temple appears as Deborah Hussey, who “has a questionable relationship with her stepfather, Steve Flemmi”, the actress says cryptically. He plans to continue the phone auction until October 4. Yet it does have a clear point of view, one that seems to pervade the film by default, and one that is largely responsible, I think, for the movie’s commercial success.
The jury found Bulger guilty of participating in 11 murders, but acquitted him of playing a role in seven others. Depp possesses an uncanny resemblance to the real Bulger with his receding hairline, striking blue eyes and mouth full of crooked teeth.
Bulger fled Boston in 1994 on a tip his arrest was imminent. Davis said his original asking price for the sketches was $500,000, but he is willing to consider lower offers. He hadn’t received any bids by Wednesday, but Davis said he has received interest from a potential buyer.”I’m not trying to profit off anything”.
“I’m not trying to profit off anything”. Yes, “Black Mass” is about gangsters, and William Bulger plays merely a supporting role, but not even mentioning the busing crisis in the course of the action would be akin to not mentioning the police assault on Rodney King and the resulting riots in Los Angeles in the course of “Straight Outta Compton”.
