Whitfield not seeking another term in congress
Rep. Edward Whitfield, R-Ky., under a cloud of an ethics investigation, announced Tuesday he will not seek a 12th term in Congress.
Whitfield’s longtime District Director Michael Pape tells WKMS News he will be seeking the Republican nomination to fill the seat.
“I appreciate the service of Congressman Whitfield and his commitment to the people of the First District”, said Comer in a statement. The Hopkinsville Republican has been in Congress for 20 years. The heavily Republican district consists of 35 counties in western Kentucky that includes Comer’s hometown.
Pape, 47, said he has been with the administration “since day one”, when Whitfield took office in 1994.
Whitfield said his proudest moments in Congress were working to create a national forest in the Land between the Lakes and securing funding for troops at Fort Campbell.
Ed Whitfield says he will not seek re-election. But he won the 35 counties in the 1st District with 55 percent of the vote in the Republican primary.
“I want to thank my colleagues in the U.S. House and Senate for the many courtesies they extended to me”. Whitfield has denied the allegations, maintaining that he introduced the legislation of his own volition. To Connie, my wife, my heartfelt thanks for her resilience and her many contributions.
