Who are Syed Farook and Tayyeep Bin Ardogan, San Bernardino suspects?
Both suspects had been killed in their vehicle after a shoot-out with police involving 20 officers.
Farook, who was born in the USA, worked as an environmental health specialist for San Bernardino County, inspecting restaurants for health violations and public pools at apartment and housing complexes.
The brother-in-law of one of the suspects says he was stunned to hear of his relative’s involvement in Wednesday’s shooting. He gave his condolences to the victims and their families and said, “I have no idea why he would do that, why he would do something like this”.
A COUPLE suspected of killing 14 people in a mass shooting in California and later slain in a shootout with police have been identified.
Police have been investigating reports the shooting might be linked to a disgruntled employee who left the party following a dispute.
There is no motive for the attacks so far, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation is not willing to connect this to terrorism at this time.
Two attackers in black masks and armed with assault rifles and handguns opened fire on the party at around 11 a.m. local time (0300GMT). Co-worker Patrick Baccari said Syed Farook traveled to Saudi Arabia in the spring and was gone for about a month.
“I don’t think they just ran home and put on some tactical-type clothes” and came back on the spur of the moment, he said.
A man and a woman suspected of taking part in yesterday’s attack in San Bernardino died in a shootout with police hours later, authorities said.
Hussam Ayloush, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said the couple left their baby with family Wednesday morning and never returned.
“We have no information at this point that this is terrorist-related, in the traditional sense that people may be thinking”, he added.
The FBI is looking at several possibilities for what drove shooters to kill 14 people at a California social services center. The shooters fire with long guns, authorities say.
