Who’s better? Peter Dinklage’s Ghost compared to replacement in new Destiny video
If you can’t make a game about dragons, ninjas, or sky pirates work then I think you better pack it in as a games maker really. Peter Dinklage’s turn as Ghost in the game has been criticised for sounding like an actor uninterested in the material.
And thanks to the big 2.0 patch overhaul in the game today, Nolan North has now taken his place as the Ghost in game. The level cap has increased to 34 for all players and the controversial light levelling system has been replaced with something more along the lines of traditional RPG experience point progression.
In addition to replacing Dinklage’s voice, Bungie claimed that Nolan North also recorded new dialogue for Destiny that’s meant to further enrich the story.
But now, after the 2.0 Patch change, we can finally look at the performances back to back and ask the most important questions of all. There is a clear difference in the two performances.
Fans on the Destiny subreddit are mixed in their reaction. Dinkage would arguably cost Bungie more, now, than he did when he was first contracted for the role.
It’s certainly going to take some getting used to, having North narrate instead of Dinklage, but we’re sure that this will likely be seen as a good thing for the franchise moving forward. Bungie stated in the run-up to Destiny’s release that it had a ten-year-plan for new content, and unless Ghost is killed off, that will amount to a huge amount of new dialogue to be recorded for years to come. In fact, according to details revealed by the settlement agreement and as reported by VentureBeat, Destiny’s story underwent a substantial revision in August 2013, the month before Staten’s departure. Here, though, there’s a jaunty tone that changes the whole flavour of the game. What are your thoughts on this and the Destiny update?
