Whole Foods is recalling a few cheese due to listeria
People who purchased the recalled cheese from Whole Foods can bring their receipts to the store for full refunds, according to the FDA.
Popular natural food chain Whole Foods is recalling a few potentially deadly cheese.
According to Whole Foods, the recall applies to wrapped, cut and weighed Papillon Organic Roquefort Cheese. All “offer by” dates are influenced.
So far, no listeria cases have been tied directly to the recalled blue cheese. In pregnant women the infection can lead to still births or miscarriages.
Listeria is bacteria mostly traced in soil, water and rarely in animals.
FDA officials discovered that there was Listeria Monocytogenes in an uncut wheel of one particular cheese: Papillion Organic Roquefort. Other foods, such as chocolate chips and nuts, have also been recalled. Around 24 people got sick after eating the cheese, while one person was reported to have lost his life.
Listeria is usually accompanied by high fever, headaches and stiffness, and abdominal pain and diarrhea. Appropriate signage is also displayed on Whole Foods store to notify customers of the recall.
A product containing Listeria bacteria can infect other foods if improperly stored.
Thankfully, no illness of infections has been outlined linking to the contaminated product.
Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.
Children and adults have more immune system, and if they consumer Listeria, fatality rate comes within the range of 20% percentage.
Of course, health officials are warning that consumers should seek immediate medical assistance if they have eaten this product or are experiencing any of the symptoms mentioned.
