Why Adele isn’t streaming her new album on Spotify or Apple
Apple Music, Spotify and Deezer, three of the main streamers, said on Thursday they would not carry it, though they hoped that would change. The British superstar went through a transformation for a amusing skit featuring Adele impersonators. You know, actual physical items.
The 27-year-old singer donned a prosthetic nose and wig and called herself “Jenny” as she joined a number of other impersonators at an audition for a fictitious pilot program at the Wimbledon Theater in London.
This ongoing controversy may be part of the reason Adele and her team made a decision to avoid streaming, but it could also have much to do with sales. “I didn’t realise it was her until the second verse as I didn’t think anything like that would ever happen to me and I didn’t believe it for two days afterwards”. Industry forecasters are predicting it will sell as many as 2.5 million copies its first week in stores, which would best the first week sales record set 15 years ago by *NSYNC’s “No Strings Attached“, a chart feat many thought would never fall.
Adele’s upcoming album “25” is bound to include tear-inducing songs that millions of fans eagerly await.
Despite her lead single’s success on streaming services, Adele has chosen not to release 25 to streaming services, not immediately at least. Billboard also recently named Adele’s last album, 21, the greatest album of all time – so it’s not exactly a tall order for 25 to break a few records of its own. According to The NY Times, Adele has revealed that her latest album-the first in five years-won’t be making it to streaming services; this is similar to what Taylor Swift infamously did earlier this year with her “1989” album.
She is not known to shake her body on stage or trash hotel rooms and is marking Friday’s release by singing at Joe’s Pub, a cozy club in New York’s Greenwich Village. Though, it will be available for purchase on iTunes.
She shared, “I do have body image problems for sure, but I don’t let them ruin my life at all and there’s bigger issues going on in the world than how I might feel about myself and stuff like that”. “We hope that she will give those fans the opportunity to enjoy “25” on Spotify alongside “19” and “21” very soon”, as quoted by USAToday.com.
“Hello, can you hear me?” she sings.
