Why did this top DNC official just endorse Bernie Sanders?
Rep. Tulsi GabbardTulsi GabbardSunday show wrap-up: A final push before Super Tuesday Top DNC official leaves post to back Sanders Obama’s appeasement of Pakistan unites Republicans and Democrats in opposition MORE (D-Hawaii), who serves as a vice chairwoman of the DNC, announced her endorsement in an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” that aired Sunday morning. “With this clear choice in mind, today I am resigning as Vice Chair of the DNC so that I can strongly support Bernie Sanders as the Democratic nominee for President of the United States”.
Gabbard, one of five vice chairs, and her committee colleagues have butted heads over a thin debate schedule in the months leading to Democratic voting contests for the party’s nomination, with Gabbard calling for the group to add more debates to the calendar.
“As a veteran and as a soldier I’ve seen first-hand the true cost of war”, she said.
Gabbard said Sanders is the type of leader who would look at the consequences ‘so we don’t continue to find ourselves in these failures that have resulted in chaos in the Middle East and so much loss of life’.
Gabbard, while only a second-term member of the House, is no lightweight when it comes to USA foreign and military policy. This is not just another issue.
Gabbard, one of just two female veterans serving in Congress, throwing her support behind Sanders helps legitimize Sanders claim that Clinton’s years of foreign policy experience are undermined by her bad call on Iraq.
“Congresswoman Gabbard is one of the important voices of a new generation of leaders”, Sanders said. Gabbard has clashed publicly with DNC officials in the past.
Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) has resigned as DNC vice-chair and is endorsing Sen.
“There is a clear contrast between our two candidates with regard to my strong belief that we must end the interventionist, regime change policies that have cost us so much”.
