Why ‘Doctor Who’ TARDIS might need to stop at fix shop
As Doctor Who embarks on its ninth series in 11 years, there’s no sign of the much-loved series slowing down.
So, Peter Capaldi, in his second season as the Doctor, was a little surprised when he first handled the sonic screwdriver, a famous tool that has allowed the alien Time Lord to pick locks, project sound and disarm weapons. That’s certainly the case with them.
“They’re a proper team”, agrees Jenna Coleman, 29, who plays Clara.
And with Missy comes her complicated relationship with the Doctor – which will become even more intricate. “They need to see me before… while there’s still time”.
The time travellers are constantly challenged, especially in today’s opener.
Still, viewers are sure to see some noticeable differences in Clara’s behavior after the death last season of her boyfriend, Danny Pink. “The story is going to take us across the universe to all types of dark, terrifying and amusing places with lots of old favourites”.
Then again, if the magic emotional thing doesn’t do it for you there are also lots of Daleks in it, and they totally screech and do cool Dalek things. It’s going to be out of this world.
One of the most-talked-about appearances is that of Maisie Williams, best-known for her role as Arya Stark on Game of Thrones – who is scheduled to appear on episode five, “The Girl Who Died” (although Moffat and others have been hush-hush about specifics).
“Osgood (Ingrid Oliver) is brought back from the dead in Episode 7 having been vaporised in the previous season’s finale”.
And now that the Doctor has reconciled his debate over whether he is a good man, the possibilities for his character seem endless. “So I think it’s great, it should be a fun watch for audiences at home”. “We want anticipation. We want fans wanting more”. Speaking of which, the tone of Capaldi’s Doctor is noticeably lighter in this segment, but the acerbic wit and attitude still poke through here and there.
Michelle Gomez gasped in shock when she first read the scripts for the coming season of Doctor Who and saw the antics her character, Missy, would be getting up to.
No, the real head-scratcher is how this episode will appeal to the series’ casual viewers, those not versed in Whovian history and lore but who tuned in for a bit of blue phonebox action anyway.
It reflects the long-time support the nation has showed for the program, which was first aired in Australia just six months after it launched on the BBC in 1964, and regularly wins its timeslot.
