Why Fox Hates When Footage Leaks From Comic-Con
Brought to you by AlphaNerd, this low-quality trailer is all we have until the HD version of the footage is released online.
Alex uses footage from the Comic-Con presentation along with footage from other movies, shows, video games and fan creations to create the teaser trailer. This isn’t the first time this has happened to Warner Bros. and yet the company still brings “exclusive” trailers to the supposedly behind-closed-doors events. He was a Fox studio exec when the first X-Men films were made, and has worked as a producer on The Wolverine, Days of Future Past, and now Apocalypse.
On the Apocalypse set, I asked about the Comic Con aftermath.
Id say it really isnt meant to be leaked. It’s really meant to excite a core. It’s the biggest and probably most intense focus group any of us ever have. If they dont like it, if they arent feeling it, theyre going to let you and everybody else know.
X-Men and Fantastic Four usually work together, or even end up fighting against each other in the Marvel comic books but it seems that working together much like that of the photograph at Comic Con would actually look good. Leaking footage a year in advance of a movies release is not such a good thing. The footage was great, and the few that got to see it were not disappointed. Generally speaking, and I cant speak for other studios – I cant even speak for Fox any more – but I dont believe their intention is [for footage to be leaked]. I think their intention is to get the most important opinions and opinion-makers in this community engaged in the promise of what’s coming.
The movie includes James McAvoy as Professor X, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Lucas Till as Havoc, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Lana Condor as Jubilee, and Oscar isaac as Apocalypse. Writer/producer Simon Kinberg is scripting the film from a treatment he wrote with X2: X-Men United writers Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris. This included leaks for Deadpool, Suicide Squad and X-Men: Apocalypse.
..if it weren’t for leaked footage the Deadpool movie wouldn’t be getting made. Anyone can tell you that Deadpool is going to be their flagship franchise moving forward. With an aging X-men franchise and a lackluster Fantastic Four franchise they can no longer compete with Marvel Studios so Deadpool is going to be their saving grace.
