Why Is Notre Dame Playing at Fenway Park?
Notre Dame and Boston College football teams are playing at Fenway Saturday night in the Shamrock Series game.
It’s the first time in almost 50 years a football game has been played at Fenway. Notre Dame leads the all-time series, 13-9.
BC, who has knocked off highly-ranked Notre Dame teams in the past, especially on the road – Saturday’s game is technically an Irish home game – certainly would receive a recruiting boost with a stunning upset.
Boston College had a golden opportunity to get back in the game but Thadd Smith dropped a likely touchdown pass at the Notre Dame 25 after he got behind the defense. His 3-yard TD pass made it 19-16 with 54 seconds left. Notre Dame won, 19-18, in the 1983 Liberty Bowl played in Memphis, Tenn.
Kizer was picked off in the BC end zone on Notre Dame’s opening possession. He threw another interception at the Eagles’ 3 and another near midfield. They extended the drive again when Justin Yoon’s 44-yard field goal attempt hit the right upright, but the Eagles were called for roughing the kicker.
Boston College will start John Fadule at quarterback, the fourth Eagles quarterback of the 2015 season.
Kizer found Chris Brown for a 12-yard touchdown connection late in the third quarter and the Irish appeared to be pulling away.
