Why MTV is going back to being MTV
Although this is a cable channel, the network is also going to appease those without cable by offering its fans a chance to watch what they are calling, “MTV Hour One”, through a special streaming on Facebook Live.
Additionally, MTV Classic will continue to run movies, concerts and music videos from the past that speak to the last three decades of music. MTV is now planning on rebranding its VH1 Classic channel as MTV Classic by August 1st that will rain down nostalgia upon its current and former viewers. For now, check the teaser video below. Take a look below to see which shows MTV Classic feels will best speak to the largest segment of nostalgia-seeking adults.
Classic will debut on August 1 – 35 years to the day of MTV’s debut.
MTV Classic will also include animated favorites like Daria, Beavis & Butt-head and Aeon Flux (which is good news for all you, Cornholios!).
On Fridays, MTV Classic will feature a classic music series such as MTV Unplugged, Storytellers, and other live music performances.
Who doesn’t remember the incessant stupidity Beavis and Butthead, the monotone and cynical Daria, the defender of the Jungle Queen The Maxx, and the awesome and historic performances that MTV Unplugged produced. To round it all out, on the weekends, they will show fan favorites including “The Real World”, “Laguna Beach”, “Road Rules” and more.
