Wi-Fi Calling Finally Comes To The iPhone For AT&T Customers
Owners of the iPhone 6/6 Plus, and later, operating on iOS 9 will be the first to be able to utilize the feature.
To turn on Wi-Fi calling, go to Settings Phone Wi-Fi Calling, and tap the slider to turn it on. AT&T was late to the game because it chose to apply for an FCC waiver that granted permission to sidestep regulations related to the TTY systems hearing impaired people use for phone conversations.
The road has been a long and winding one but according to the Verge, subscribers of AT&T can finally make use of Wi-Fi calling on their mobile devices. Wi-Fi calling can be used for voice calls within the United States, Puerto Rico, and United States Virgin Islands at no charge.
You must be running iOS9 on your Apple device.
Wi-Fi calling authorizes phones to automatically switch to a Wi-Fi connection for calls and texts if cell signals are low or unavailable.
Once the setup process is complete, customers are receiving notifications letting them know the Wi-Fi calling feature will be available after a short activation period.
AT&T customers can also now send and receive texts via Wi-Fi, although the company notes that such messages are counted and charged under customers’ existing rate plans.
