Wichita State’s Grady out of hospital
He would be placed on a stretcher and taken off the court and taken to a nearby hospital.
A Wichita State spokesman told NBCSports.com that Grady was taken to a local trauma center for evaluation and that he is “awake, alert and is answering questions appropriately”.
“I thought in the second half we generated much better looks, shot a better percentage, but whether we shoot well or not, we still have to be a team that prides itself in getting second shots”, Mack said.
Grady was alert and responsive to questions and had feeling in his extremities on Friday but had limited use of his arms and legs. The impact caused his head to rotate to one side.
“That’s how we run our offense, pushing the ball, getting easy shots, easy layups, which leads to opening up from the outside”, said Norris, who was 2 of 4 from three-pointers.
Following Saturday morning’s practice, WSU players and coaches paid a visit to Grady in the hospital. “It’s life.” Both schools tweeted their concerns after the incident, and Alabama coach Avery Johnsonsaid after the game that “we’re really praying for him”.
“I don’t know many teams that don’t go on little scoring droughts … but if you completely crumble on the other end of the floor, you can find yourself in a hole that you dig yourself out of”, Mack said. The Shockers have been the Shockees in three games this season, losing to USC, Alabama and Tulsa, and while that is perfectly acceptable for a football team, those are bad basketball losses. Dazon Ingram was actually second on team at that point with six points – all of them off of free throws. After Wichita State failed to score on its next possession, Norris secured the win with two from the foul line.
The Tide would again respond, this time with back-to-back threes from Shannon Hale and Riley Norris to retake the lead, 58-55, and never trailed again.
Ron Baker scored 25 points for Wichita State. It’s the first time the Shockers have gone 0-3 in a tourney under coach Marshall. It was the first win for the Crimson Tide over a ranked opponent since January 18, 2011, when Alabama downed then-No.
USC will play another Top-25 team in a Friday semifinal, No. 23 Xavier, which beat Alabama 64-45 Thursday. Alabama made 71 percent of their free throws in the half.
Bluiett, who had just five points at the half, led all scorers with 15 and Jaylen Reynolds had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Alabama moves on to the fifth-place game, which is slated for a 6:00 p.m CT tip on Sunday, Nov. 29, against the victor of the Iowa and Notre Dame matchup.
Wichita State: Closes out the tourney in Sunday’s seventh-place game against the Notre Dame-Iowa loser.
