Wife of cricketer Shahadat arrested
Police arrested wife of cricketer Shahadat Hossain in a case filed for torturing minor housemaid.
The 29-year-old paceman was suspended last month when police raided his house after officers found the injured and crying maid on a street in the capital Dhaka.
As per reports, the pacer and his wife were absconding since being accused in a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
The fast bowler, 29, had been missing since 6 September when allegations were first made about him and his wife.
Islam said Hossain then surrendered himself to a tribunal court in Dhaka on Monday morning and applied for bail.
Confirming the news, police inspector Shafiqur Rahman said that Nritto had been arrested from her parent’s house while they are still searching for Shahadat, the Express Tribune reported.
Hossain last played for Bangladesh in May against Pakistan.
According to police, the girl had substantial injuries – several parts of her body were dislocated, she had swollen eyes, and was bruised extensively.
Hossain, who has played 38 Tests for Bangladesh, went into hiding more than three weeks ago after police sought his arrest for allegedly abusing the girl he employed illegally in his home.
“We appealed to the court that Shahadat should be released on bail for the greater interest of the country”, Hiru told AFP.
