Wild fire coach Yeo after eighth straight loss
The Bruins have outscored their last five road opponents 20-8.
“We need a response”, he said, “because that was not good enough”.
Yeo led the Wild to the playoffs the past three seasons, making the second round in 2014 and 2015 but falling to the Chicago Blackhawks both times.
As the buzzer sounded indicating the Wild’s 4-2 loss was complete, Yeo turned to his left, walked down the tunnel and out of sight from the Xcel Energy Center crowd for the final time.
Former Wild player Zenon Konopka was critical of Yeo with a tweet saying his old coach should be fired.
The Wild dropped their eighth straight game following Yeo’s dismal in the middle of his fifth year with Minnesota.
“I don’t know what they’re thinking”, Suter said according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
“You can’t lose every game and expect to think that there’s not going to be changes”, Yeo told reporters after the loss and just hours before before being fired. The team said he is considered day to day. With 27 games remaining this season, players, coaches and Fletcher are on notice.
Ouellet, 22, has three goals and 14 assists in 38 games this season for the Griffins.
Vanek tied it midway through the second period, getting a deflection off of Gustavsson for his first goal in 11 games. Davis Krejci banked the shot off a sliding Nino Niederreiter and into the net before Niederreiter’s momentum pulled the net off its moorings.
“That seems the trend”, Vanek said. “We work so hard to finally get one and get this crowd into it and we take the crowd out of it pretty quickly again”.
Brad Marchand, Loui Eriksson and Zdeno Chara also scored for Boston. When they do, they will be seeking their first home win of 2016. In December 2013, a 6-game losing streak had many wondering if the Wild should make a coaching change before Darcy Kuemper and Ilya Bryzgalov helped the Wild to the playoffs. “They’re your leaders and that’s why on your team moving forward, to get better, you have to have your leaders echo your words in the room when you leave the locker room”.
