Wild Pig With Blue Fat Goes Viral – What The Heck?
Or was it blue and black? Hundreds of people have commented with possible reasons why the pig’s fat is a bright blue.
According to AOL, a photo posted on Reddit of a dead pig started the chatter on Facebook and Twitter this week.
“So, my in-laws live on a ranch in Morgan Hill, Calif., and they shot a wild pig on it. They thought it a normal pig until they cut it open”. The photo, which was posted to Imgur, has already had over 1 million views.
In the meantime, who’s up for some blue bacon?
The Weird PigSome users suggested that the pig might have been in contact with chemicals that contained blue dye, rat poison, or that it might have suffered from a copper contamination, a bacterial infection or simply a genetic defect.
GlendilTEK also states that no one at the ranch can explain why the pig’s fat is blue.
Once most of the pig’s blood drained, they cut into the animal to prepare it for eating.
The ranchers continued cutting in to the pig, only to find that all the fat was blue regardless of the section.
The couple reportedly shot several other wild pigs on their ranch, but none looked like this pig.
.
To get to the bottom of all the pig’s unusual coloring GlendilTEK and his family sent samples of the pig to UC Davis.
What do you think caused the wild pig to have the mysterious layer of blue fat?
“Have not heard back on the results, but have let the carcass sit for about a day, no animals seem to touch it or try to eat it which was interesting…”
