Wildfires destroy homes, cut off power, force thousands to flee across Pacific
The California fires are among dozens of blazes burning across the West.
The 69,438-acre Rocky fire’s most ferocious flames had mostly burned out by Friday, leaving behind pockets of smoldering fuel deep within the interior of the burn area and minimal fire activity near the perimeter, according to Cal Fire.
In Idaho, crews battling the Lawyer Complex fire near Kamiah said structures, including homes, were damaged or destroyed on private property, but they weren’t sure how many.
The National Multi-Agency Coordinating Group (NMAC) is increased the National Fire Preparedness Level (PL) to its highest point, PL-5, effective at 5:30 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time on Thursday. “We should see some improvement (today)”, Tobin said.

They became one indistinguishable blaze Friday.
“It’s like blowing up a chimney”, Beverlin said. Resources are stretched thin because of all the fires in Idaho, including one south of Orofino near Weippe. “In fact, you never want to get complacent, because a lot of times injuries occur because we let our guard down”.
At least 150 people have left their homes since Monday.
The helicopters are backed by single-engine retardant bombers, but none of the large ones capable of hitting a broad swath.
