Will ‘Gilmore Girls’ Continue? Amy Sherman-Palladino Leaves The Door Open
Mild spoiler alert: This story contains some minor details from Netflix’s Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
At least fans seem to be in agreement on one important thing. But while the show’s plot was based on Lorelai and Rory, there was a whole town full of quirky characters to follow. Sherman-Palladino shares, “I wasn’t sure when we started back [on the Netflix revival] whether or not they would be appropriate. It was a concerted effort over a number of years”. As for Bledel, she’s uncertain if she’d like to continue the story although she told Entertainment Tonight that Rory would have a different style of motherhood that would still involve Lorelai’s influence. And of course it makes sense that, since the show began with a 32-year-old Lorelai and her 16-year-old daughter Rory, it would end with a now 32-year-old Rory having a child of her own, continuing the circle of life.
“Czuchry, however, said, “The ending is a great ending if that’s end, and if there’s more to go, that could be a great ride, too”.
But now that the Gilmore Girls continuation has been released on Netflix, fans know what those long-awaited last four words are. Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband, executive producer Dan Palladino, walked away after the sixth season when they couldn’t come to a financial agreement with the studio.
Cheryl Strayed, author of acclaimed book Wild, was left “gobsmacked” by all the references to her work in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, as she wrote in a response on Instagram. She said, “I understand already, Mom”. “It would have to be honored in a certain way”. It just won’t resonate the way it might if you’ve been watching since Rory wore her private-school uniform and formed her first friendships. “If it ever happened, I promise we’ll do it correctly”. Tell us your thoughts on the big revival in the comments section below. She said she wondered what happened to Rory after they left the screens off eight years ago.
Netflix was an ideal creative partner for several reasons. They could’ve done something in season seven that would’ve changed our ending and that would’ve been OK, but they didn’t. Its business is in signing up more subscribers.
For every actor who is returning to ‘Gilmore Girls, ‘ it is a special experience, nonetheless, different from an individual perspective, reports Entertainment Weekly. Those aren’t promising numbers for outlets that depend on ratings.
