Will Grier to start for Florida at Kentucky
Will Grier #7 of the Florida Gators celebrates a touchdown against the Kentucky Wildcats at Commonwealth Stadium on September 19, 2015 in Lexington, Kentucky.
Coach Jim McElwain said Wednesday he hasn’t settled on a starter for Saturday’s game at Kentucky. Jojo Kemp has also contributed 112 yards and a TD of his own, while Towles has coaxed 100-plus receiving yards from both Garrett Johnson and Dorian Baker. They play hard and play with an edge to them and I like that.
The Wildcats had come into the game with a lot of confidence after a 26-22 road win at South Carolina, but the Gator defense forced them to settle for a trio of Austin MacGinnis field goals. South Florida (1-2) also had its share of miscues – including two turnovers, a dropped potential touchdown pass, a holding call that wiped out a touchdown run, and a personal foul penalty that erased a fourth-quarter first down when the score was 28-17.
East Carolina (yikes!) torched Florida for 333 yards through the air in a 31-24 loss.
Florida sophomore RB Kelvin Taylor was listed as the third RB on the team’s Monday depth chart following his throat-slash gesture against ECU on Saturday.
On Kentucky’s first possession, Hargreaves broke on a Patrick Towles tipped pass in the flat for an interception that he returned 53 yards to the United Kingdom 19-yard line, setting up the Gators’ first score. He was sharper in the first half than the second, although he mostly looked better at dealing with pressure than he did the past two weeks.
McElwain says he doesn’t have a timeline for picking one, either. “Obviously, he has a lot of growing to do”. If either player gets a “hot hand”, then that player will likely stay in. – Stanley Williams ran 16 times for 80 yards. There’s still room for improvement as the Gators were penalized 10 times for 61 yards but those flags didn’t cause too much damage. McElwain went completely overboard and said he was “not proud” of it.
How to watch Florida vs Kentucky Live?. When you look at similar opportunities that the quarterbacks have had, Grier, by and large, has been able to place balls with more finesse further down the field and gotten throws where only his receiver could catch them.
HATCHER RETURNS: Kentucky junior defensive end/outside linebacker Jason Hatcher is back after a two-game suspension for a violation of team rules.
“I definitely feel like we’re back to our complete “BDN” defense that we always preached”, defensive lineman Bryan Cox Jr. said, referring to the “Best Defense in the Nation” tag.
“We talked about it all week”.
“I think we’ve become so politically correct as a society that people think that the climate has changed”.
