Will & Jazzy Jeff: New Tour!
The rapper explained his reasons for the reunion because the duo “never actually had a chance” to do a full tour back in the day.
Sam Smith swung by The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week, to chat about everything from his new cat, Henry, to getting to sing a James Bond theme.
“We never actually had a chance to go out and do a full tour”, he said.
Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff with recorded five albums together between 1987 and 1993, but the hip-hop duo never toured together due to scheduling conflicts with Smith’s NBC sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”. The Grammy victor also said he’s been working on new music.
Even though he’s still busy making movies, Will Smith has found the time to resume his music career.
The actor and musician made headlines last month when he appeared on a remix of Colombian band Bomba Estereo’s song Fiesta.
“I keep a stash”, Smith told her. “I have a couple of new things”.
Their commitment to keeping their music clean led to their first record to hit the pop top twenty with Parents Just Don’t Understand (1988 / #12 Pop / #5 Dance / #10 R&B) which earned them the very first Grammy for rap.
DJ Jazzy Jeff recently talked about his own desire to hit the road with his longtime musical partner. “Maybe we’ll do one and you bring the audience”, he propositioned. In October he told Entertainment Weekly that he has always been waiting to hear from the “Concussion” star. The tour dates aren’t finalized yet, but Smith previously said they’re looking at summer 2016.
