Will Justin Bieber’s boost send the NHS Choir to Christmas number one?
London-based choir, made up entirely of National Health Service staff, has outlasted Justin Bieber to the number one spot in the UK Charts on Friday, December 25, 2015.
The Canadian singer will have to be content with three tracks in the top five, but is unlikely to be disappointed to miss out on the top spot after urging his fans to back the charity choir.
Call it a Christmas miracle, but it happened. A Bridge Over You beat Bieber’s chart-topper this week by 31,000 copies.
Commenting on their success, the choir said, “it is a brilliant celebration for the NHS across the country, so well done and thank you everyone”. It’s Christmas. NHS Choir good luck’.
They told OfficialCharts.com: “We are absolutely overwhelmed and couldn’t be any happier!”
Justin Bieber is sharing some love with Britain’s National Health Service.
All proceeds from the NHS Choir’s single will go to a selection of charities including Carers UK and Mind. A massive cheer for the NHS, thank you’.
A Bridge Over You, originally recorded in 2013, is a fusion of Coldplay and Simon and Garfunkel songs.
“So for one week it’s OK not to be number one”.
“I was listening to the song and it dawned on me that a great way of translating how I was feeling and how proud I was to work for the NHS would be getting (the song) to number one”.
That came after Bieber wrote on Twitter Wednesday: “So for 1 week it s ok not to be #1”.
‘What a fantastic result for the NHS Choir to claim the 2015 Christmas Number 1, ‘ he said. “There couldn’t be a more deserving group of winners”.
