But the master plan of show creator John Logan, who wrote most of the episodes, revealed itself over the last few episodes, to create a highly satisfying-and seemingly very final, for a show whose renewal has not yet been announced-conclusion.
Over its three seasons, PENNY DREADFUL developed an incredibly loyal fanbase, lovingly called “The Dreadfuls”, that have followed and rabidly commented on every twist and turn of the series.
On the other hand, Season 3 finale of Penny Dreadful ends in a few days but viewers are still wondering whether the show will be renewed for another season.
Why should “Penny Dreadful” Season 3 be renewed for another year?
“From the beginning, I imagined her story would unfold over a three-season arc…” Midway through [Season 2] – so, two years ago – as I was planning a third season, I realized, ‘Oh, I see exactly where this is heading.
John Logan certainly didn’t hide that the show was ending after Season 3 to try to trick fans.
He added: “On its own merits this show would absolutely keep going if there wasn’t a creative reason to be done now”.
Penny Dreadful was executive produced by Logan for Desert Wolf Productions, along with Oscar victor Sam Mendes and Pippa Harris, both of Neal Street Productions, and Karen Richards. The show has an unbelievable cast ensemble, which includes the fantastic Patti LuPone.

As he was laying out what he wanted to do this season, John came in and said, “This needs to be the end of Vanessa Ives”.
The show has not been cancelled, Logan himself made the decision to end the show at this point, telling U.S. publication Variety “Some poems are meant to be haikus, some are meant to be sonnets and some are meant to be tone poems”.
