Will Smith drops first song in over a decade, raps in ‘Spanglish’
Don’t get too excited now – but Will Smith has just returned to his musical roots with his first new song for over 10 years.
Simón Mejía, who founded the Grammy-nominated band, said in a statement that he “couldn’t believe” Will wanted to be featured on their song.
According to Billboard Magazine on Friday, the opportunity for the band to work with Will Smith was a special opportunity.
It’s the first time the Fresh Prince has put out a song since 2005’s “Switch” from his Lost & Found album. The movie star is a featured rapper on a remix of the Bomba Estereo track “Fiesta“, which was released today.
Fans should have caught on to the collaboration when the Hitch actor posted a photo with the group to congratulate them on their Latin Grammy Award nomination this month. The new track, accessible now on iTunes, Spotify, and on YouTube, highlights Smith rapping in English and American-emphasized Spanish, and keeps the same celebratory vibes as his greatest tracks.
Will Smith is getting jiggy with music again. “I went into the studio with Kanye [West]. I’m in a creative ceiling”, he said.
Bomba Estéreo includes singer Liliana Saumet, drummer Andrés Zea and multi-instrumentalist Julian Salazar.

“I always record. I haven’t stopped recording”, he told The Voice.
“You know me”, Smith breathlessly continues, describing himself as “OG, high class and low key”.
