Will Smith looks to reclaim throne as king of summer
How numerous other failings of Suicide Squad can be pinned on Ayer is unclear, considering just how much the film feels as though it was patched together in an editing room by a committee of men and women very anxious about box office receipts: the uneven pacing, the misplaced scenes, the plot holes, the tonal whiplash, the neutered attempts at edginess.
We hope the wardrobe department are getting a nice chunk of the movie’s profits as they’re no doubt contributing a lot to its success with minimal material. She wins, I guess, but we lose.
DC fans and audiences are now only a mere few hours away from seeing Suicide Squad. But if Suicide Squad does end up performing poorly at the box office, all this does is put more attention and pressure on Wonder Woman to be good and help save the DCEU from itself. But there are real debates happening about the role of critics in an online world, and they aren’t going to go away. Hopefully, they won’t ruin the experience for those who could have loved it (though if you’re using reviews in place of your own opinions you probably don’t deserve one anyway), but it’s got to be a concern for Warner Bros.
The movie sees a team of imprisoned super villains released to battle Delevingne’s character the Enchantress. Even Ayers said that after he tweeted a famous Emiliano Zapata quote which translated into “I’d prefer to die standing, than to live on my knees”. The film is pretty dirty and unpleasant as is – again, in a good way, mostly – so it wouldn’t have been surprising if Ayer and Leto’s the Joker initially went that far.
She said: “I’d lost my luggage”.
The film’s director, David Ayer, also spoke with Collider about the deleted scenes, but he wants to make sure you know that, despite rumblings that you may hear, the theatrical cut of Suicide Squad is 100% his cut of the movie. “If the fans like it then we did our job”.
You’ve previously made films grounded in reality, like the tough streets of L.A. where you grew up or the historic battlefields of World War II. Whether it be because you’re already invested in the film or be it you just have to see the dumpster fire for yourself, people will see this movie this weekend.
While it would be tempting to frame this debate as the difference between the true fan and outsider perspectives on “Suicide Squad”, that’s not really correct.
That sentiment really comes through in the bar scene, also used in an early teaser, in which the Suicide Squad members bond over booze.
