The Oscars nominations for acting categories were exclusively white again this year, prompting the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite to trend around social media, but Davis says the awards aren’t the only problem.
Reese Witherspoon commented on the growing controversy over the lack of diversity among this year’s Oscar nominees.
Yet in Los Angeles, only a handful of Oscars have been awarded to people of color, and those have come many years apart.
“The problem is not with the Oscars.” she told Entertainment Tonight. “Can you cast a black man in that role?” Even Isaacs weighed in, issuing an unprecedented statement in which she said she is “heartbroken” and “frustrated” by the nominations’ lack of inclusiveness and vowed to take more aggressive action to recruit a wider range of Academy members.
“I do support the Oscar Ban movement’s position that the nominations do not reflect the diversity of our community”, said Ruffalo.
He added that he wasn’t sure if he would be attending the ceremony, explaining: “I’m weighing it, yes”. In the end you can’t vote for an actor because he’s black.

Speaking at Davos, musician and actor Will.i.am was asked if he considered there to be diversity problem in the music and film industry: “I have a very long answer to that”.
Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo – up for a golden statuette for his role in “Spotlight”, about journalists at the Boston Globe who uncovered sexual abuse in the Catholic Church – had hinted at the idea of not attending but tweeted he would.
Fast and Furious star Tyrese Gibson and rapper 50 Cent have called on Chris Rock to step down as Oscars host in the wake of the furore.
African American Film Critics Association president Gil Robertson opposed a boycott, calling the Oscars a well-respected institution that does a lot of good work. “I was happy to be married to that woman”.
“There’s always a tendency, it seems, to label things and speak out against things, but I want to make it clear that I’m not against the mainstream”, he said. “I’m not against mainstream, this is just meant to broaden the film industry… give audiences more choices”.
