Will the Giants still win the lowly NFC East?
With a crucial Monday Night Football game on the line in the fourth quarter and divisional ground at stake, receiver DeSean Jackson pumped up the crowd as he awaited a chance to bring Washington to victory. The Cowboys (4-8) will not have an easy time climbing past the three 5-7 teams ahead of them, but they have split with the Giants and Eagles, and they have a chance to sweep the Redskins.
Next Sunday, the Cowboys return to Lambeau Field for the first time since last year’s “no catch” divisional round heartbreaker for a showdown with the Green Bay Packers (8-4). “We can go up there and the defense put together a game like that, a little more confidence in our offense, and here we go”. The Cowboys were flagged eight times for 70 yards; the Redskins had nine flags for 73 yards.
The NFL playoffs in recent history has been called into question.
This is a division that no one deserves to win. So we have to continue to work on it. There’s a lot of different reasons why. “The records aren’t as good, but it’s all about winning your division”.
Minnesota at Arizona, 7:25 p.m.
Dallas cranked up the pressure against Washington with an array of blitzes and recorded three sacks.
The Cowboys scored two plays later through running back Darren McFadden to take a 16-9 lead.
“Regardless of what the schedule is, we have to be ready to play our best football”, Garrett said. From near the 25-yard line on the far sideline, Jackson tried to cut back to the near sideline, ran all the way to the precipice of the Washington goal line, then fumbled just before 10-yard line. His fumble led to the only touchdown for Dallas’ 27th-ranked offense.
“The best thing I could say was, ‘I laid an egg; I messed up, ‘” Jackson said. The NFC East has easily been the worst all around division this season, but regardless, the victor will be the No. 4 seed in the NFC. “The fact of the matter is we have four games left and everything in our goals is still reachable”. The Cowboys, Giants and Redskins each lost to the Patriots. Cowboys and Redskins were shoving each other in likely soon-to-be brawls.
Cousins added that while the frustration of not being able to take a full-game lead in the division is there, the entire team needs to employ a positive outlook for the final four regular season games. The Cowboys are a mediocre 1-7 this year without Tony Romo, and not one of their quarterbacks (even Romo) has more touchdowns than interceptions.
Dallas wide receiver Dez Bryant (88) dives for a pass behind Washington cornerback Will Blackmon in the second half.
And yet, none of that mattered to Dallas, really, because by beating Washington 19-16 on Dan Bailey’s 54-yard field goal with 9 seconds left Monday night, the Cowboys somehow kept themselves in the thick of the playoff chase in the woeful NFC East. The issue forced both teams to bust out their dusty printers to print out paper versions of plays, and wouldn’t you know it, the Cowboys ran into issues there as well. I checked and no. It’s in the rules, one of these average franchises must make the playoffs.
