Will the Warriors Go 16-0?
Kobe Bryant and the rest of the Lakers simply didn’t have the answer to Golden State’s onslaught.
The Warriors romped into the record books on Tuesday with a 111-77 blowout against the Lakers in San Francisco, stretching their flawless start to the season to 16-0.
The No. 1 player is deservedly safe and secure in his throne, but kingdoms crumble quicker than they’re built.
Bryant has not said when he is officially retiring, but earlier this summer, Lakers part-owner and executive vice president of basketball operations Jim Buss told the Los Angeles Times that the team expects this season to be Bryant’s last of his career.
“But it won’t be a disappointing effort if we don’t get there because there are so many talented teams in this league”.
“I could’ve scored 80”, Bryant said after missing 13 of his 14 shots.
Kobe Bryant has even conceded that the Warriors have a shot at the 1972 Lakers seemingly insurmountable record of 33 straight wins.
“Anything’s possible”, Walton said. “We want to keep it going”. So is it likely?
“Kobe will tell you, ‘I’m about to kill you, ‘” Draymond Green said, explaining the difference.
We’re witnessing history, but it’s deeper than the latest notch on their belt.
One way or another, the battle for individual supremacy is well under way. That’s why they lead the league in assists per game.
Their talent, depth and hunger will exceed most obstacles.
Bryant, 37, is more or less on a farewell tour this season.
They know it, too, which is why they weren’t popping champagne bottles in the locker room.
“We’ve had like two 16-game winning streaks the last two years and those are pretty special feats”.
Curry spoke of winning with such gusto that while he actually did agree with Walton, he wouldn’t quite rule out perfection. “At the end of the day, it’s (just) 16 regular-season games”.
“I have not considered that yet”, Scott said.
Now the question is: When will the Warriors lose a game? At some point the tough schedule will catch up with them. Teams such as the Raptors and Pacers are certainly playing well, but there is no team on that list that makes you step back and say “that’s a loss”. According to him, it’s realistically hard if not impossible for them to reach 33 wins without losing because of the fact that they’re going to face a long road trip in the next few games, including stops in Toronto, Indiana, and Boston. “When you stay in the moment good things happen because everybody’s just wrapped up in the process”. Because if not then it just becomes so easy.
