Will This Be The Most Explicit HBO Show Ever — Trending News
The union notice was prompted by complaints by SAG-AFTRA extras uncomfortable with the consent form requirement on the “Westworld” set.
The series is about a theme park in the future “populated by artificial beings”, according to its IMDb description.
The star-studded new series is based on the 1973 science fiction western-thriller film that starred Yul Brynner, written and directed by novelist Michael Crichton.
The upcoming sci-fi thriller’s background actors were asked to sign an explicitly detailed consent form agreeing to “simulate oral sex with hand-to-genital touching”, “have [their] genitals painted” and “pose on all fours while others who are fully nude ride on [their] back”, the casting form says.
SAG-AFTRA union has spoken out about the contract which they claims is ‘unenforceable’.
SAG-AFTRA requires forms of this nature to specify if background talent should expect to perform “rough or dangerous” acts; as that does not appear on this release for “Westworld“, it’s safe to assume that today’s shoot should remain physically safe-though certainly not tame. Although, maybe they consider that to be covered by the all-purpose last line of this agreement, which says performers may also have to engage in “other assorted acts the project may require”.
HBO’s “Westworld” doesn’t debut until 2016, but already it’s making headlines. Which, when the things you’ve listed start at “genital-to-genital touching”, presumably means these background actors could end the day doing a reverse cowgirl on top of a pile of chicken parmesan while jerking off a pair of Tibetan monks who are singing “Hava Nagila”.
Despite the demands on the performers, extras will receive no extra payment for the nude and sexual scenes.
If any of the above mentioned manages to fall under stunt work, the actor could be upgraded to principal performer, which means residuals and an upgrade in pay. But there is no extra payment for wearing nothing at all. It also states that the set has to be closed to anyone not involved with the production and no still photography can happen without the actor’s consent.
SAG also reminded members it will have a representative on set Wednesday to monitor the shoot, which THR notes is something that only happens when the union is sufficiently concerned.
