Wimbledon 2015 – Maria Sharapova says Serena Williams is the one to beat
The Serb struggled with Zverev’s serve, going down in straight sets marking his second grass court match of 2015.
For about a week, anyway.
Federer, who turns 34 on August 8, is a seven-time Wimbledon champion who won his first major title at the All England Club in 2003. “I could only just congratulate him because he was the one that was taking his chances, stepping into the court, being courageous, coming up with some incredible shots”.
“That’s the match that I wanted to win, but it didn’t happen, mostly because I lost to a better player that day”, Djokovic said.
“I just think about doing the right things and techniques and practising and training”.
PHILADELPHIA-This year’s Wimbledon Championships will spotlight the both the 40th anniversary of a significant milestone in the tournament’s history and a player’s attempt to achieve a rare feat in the history of tennis. “That’s where I want to play my best”.
Williams could meet sister and Wimbledon doubles partner Serena – a 6-4, 6-1 victor over Margarita Gasparyan Monday – in the fourth round.
“Did I lose?” she asked.
“It’s not my concern, honestly”. After a warm embrace with Nieminen at the net, Hewitt went back onto the court without his racket to acknowledge the loud ovation and wave to the fans. The second-seeded Czech will play Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands in the first round.
His last Grand Slam quarter-final appearance came at Wimbledon in 2009 and he hadn’t been beyond the second round in his last four visits. It makes me feel like, Okay, I’ll be fine.
“My dad always said growing up, “Tennis is so mental, you have to be really mentally tough””.
Kvitova beat Williams in the semifinals at the Madrid Open last month. “I’m sure everybody will say the same”, Federer said. “I never beat her before”, Kvitova said. I didn’t know what to expect from that.
“Winning Halle has given me the extra confidence I guess it’s going to take for me to win this title again”. The likes of Venus Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Ana Ivanovic, Maria Sharapova, Samantha Stosur, who have tasted Grand Slam success in the past, are in Serena’s half this Wimbledon.
“Roland Garros final was not easy”, Djokovic admitted to Los Angeles Times.
Also in the men’s draw, French Open Stan Wawrinka is in action against Joao Sousa. She reached two finals on the grass and won her first career title on Saturday against Aga Radwanska. When you’re the best player on the planet, although you’re expected to win, that doesn’t necessarily mean there’s any less pressure to do so. “Whereas a year ago, it was all about getting back”.
“This is the cradle of our sport, it doesn’t get any bigger than Wimbledon Centre Court and it’s an honour and to be defending champion”, Djokovic said after signing autographs on the world’s most famous court. “It’s important to be ready, to feel good physically, to move well”.
Djokovic contested the last two finals at the All England Club, beating Federer in a five-set classic past year after losing to Murray in 2013, and he is still confident of a strong challenge again this time around.
World No. 1s Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams open play Monday in the first round at Wimbledon.
“I don’t know how this sounds, but it’s not on top of my list”, she said. I managed to get the necessary reset in my mind. “This is what it takes”.
