Win Strengthens Our Belief, Says Arsenal Coach Wenger
Facing Arsenal will be a daunting task for the hosts given the impressive recent displays for Wenger’s side, the visitors having beaten title rivals Manchester City 2-1 last time out.
On gaining title belief with victory over Manchester City: “It was an important win for us but we already had a good confidence level”.
Wenger said that in-form Sanchez and Ozil are required to display their full concentration towards the upcoming league matches at the moment.
“He had only one training session yesterday. I think the way we played in the second half we are going to be an important team in fighting for the title”, he stressed after the game.
On if he would have taken Arsenal’s current position of second in the table at the start of the season: “Yes”.
“In football you need one guy who gives the ball to the one who scores the goal”. That is why we implement them into games but we are still risky on the counter-attack and that makes us a real threat.
“(But) we have not proven anything yet and if we are to talk of the title we have to be even more consistent”, added the 2014 World Cup victor.
“He’s always been top drawer, but now the others are starting to get on his wavelength and I’m backing them to win again here”.
“I think Wenger, with this group of players, could be on the verge of creating another dynasty at the club”.
“At the moment, it’s by miles too early to say who will win the Premier League. If you see the games against the big clubs, we won against them so we know our quality, if we play our game we can win the league”, Ozil told reporters after the game. “As a unit for 90 minutes, the desire to earn your right to win, the desire to commit completely was the most satisfying [part] of the night”.
For me, it will be easier said than done as the days of a single team or two dominating the Premier League are over. “So let’s take care of that”.
Ronaldo Koeman’s side were comfortbaly beaten at home by opposition from the capital in the form of Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, and the Saints are outsiders for their clash against Arsenal, with William Hill offering them at 13/5 (3.60) for the win. In fact, Arsenal had an identical record to this season – 36 points from 17 games – but were still unable to convert it into a meaningful title challenge, suffering damaging defeats by Liverpool (5-1) and Chelsea (6-0).
