Windies spinner Narine suspended for illegal action
Earlier, Narine was reported for suspected bowling action on November 7 after the third ODI match against Sri Lanka in Pallekele.
ICC suspended the West Indies Bowler in International Cricket after finding out that his bowling action is illegal.
Narine was playing against Sri Lanka after a gap of more than a year in worldwide cricket, and finished with four wickets from three ODIs at an average of 18.
WICB director of cricket Richard Pybus added: “It will be a blow to Sunil to have failed the ICC biomechanics assessment of his action and be suspended from bowling”.
Narine will be allowed to participate in domestic cricket in the West Indies, but he will be desperate to find a solution to the problem ahead of next year’s ICC World Twenty20 in India.
He is currently campaigning in the Bangladesh Premier League and will now have to abort his campaign for Comilla Victorians.
Under ICC regulations, Narine can ask for a re-assessment once he has modified his action.
An ICC statement said that the suspension would be recognised and enforced by all national cricket federations within domestic events played in their jurisdiction. However, it is possible that the off-spinner can improve his bowling action and re-appear for the assessment test to get the suspension cancelled.
The check was carried out on November 17 on the ICC’s accredited testing centre in Loughborough University, England.
Narine is now the leading bowler in both limited overs formats of the game.
